Sony Unveils PS4, ‘Slapping Face’ of Microsoft

Japanese technology giants Sony have unveiled the fourth instalment of the enormously admired Playstation series.


The video games device, that was officially exposed at this year’s E3 Trade event in Los Angeles, California, have been vehemently anticipated.


Although many of the console’s features and updates were announced in February, Sony had kept prospective buyers guessing on some important facts, including the general design of the Playstation 4.


Andrew House, President and Group CEO of SCE, said the Playstation 4 represents, in many ways, a very new Playstation.


Possibly the news which has many people discussing may be the declaration that the PS4 will critically dent its close rival, Microsoft’s Xbox One, on cost. Mr. House announced the Playstation 4 is offered at US $399 (£349) upon release, whilst, at the exact same show, Microsoft had previously revealed how the Xbox One will be US $499 (£429).


Another imperative announcement came when it is revealed that Sony wouldn’t be introducing any restrictions on second user games. Actually, the Playstation 4 is not going to even require players to regularly validate their consoles via the Net so as to continue play.


Conversely, Microsoft has added more restrictions concerning who a player can buy second-hand titles from. The company has even gone as far as to need Xbox One players to connect to the web once every day so as to use their machine.


In response to Sony, there is approximately 140 Playstation 4 video games presently in progress, with one hundred or so expected to go on sale in the Playstation 4′s first year of release. Trade insiders have speculated that Sony are trying to reach out to independent designers, mainly those who feel muted by Microsoft.


Drawing a massive cheer from the audience, Jack Tretton, boss of Sony Entertainment America stated, “PS4 will not impose any new limitations on your use of PS4 game discs,”



BBC correspondent Dave Lee reported that, “If console battles were decided by the frequency and volume of whoops and cheers from highly strung gaming fanatics, then Sony has won it hands down”.


The current Sony console, the PS3, outsold Microsoft’s Xbox 360 by a good margin, but was in turn outsold by Nintendo’s Wii. It is consideration that Sony are attempting to rectify this with the release of the Playstation 4.


Sony’s announcement has been seen by some as a calculated hit against Microsoft, with IGN.com’s UK Editor-in-Chief Alex Simmons describing it as a incredibly public slap across Microsoft’s face.


Sony declined to provide a release date for the new console, but stoutly hinted that the PS4 should turn up around Christmas time.
